Accepted photographic ID documents:
Any of the following can be accepted as photographic ID
- Passport (any nationality)
- UK driving licence (photocard only) – Please note, we cannot accept your driving licence for both a photo ID and a proof of address *
- HM Armed Forces ID card
- eVisa
- UK/EU National Identity card – Must carry the PASS accredited log
If no photo ID is available then the following will be accepted:
One passport sized photo, signed, with the name, position and contact details of a person in authority or standing (i.e. GP, Solicitor, Police, Teacher) who endorsed the claimant’s photograph and Full birth certificate.
Driving licence guidance:
- Photocard driving licence: Only the photocard is required as proof of photo ID.
- Old-style paper driving licence: Unfortunately these cannot be used as photo ID. You can however use this paper driving licence as address ID. If not already used as photographic ID, the photocard driving licence can be used as address ID. Neither driving licence can be used as both photo and address ID.
Accepted Address ID documents:
Any of the following can be accepted as proof of address (MUST be a UK address)
- Financial statement* – e.g. bank, pension, endowment, ISA – Must be dated within the last three months
- Utility bill* – electricity, gas, water – Mobile phone bills cannot be accepted – Must be dated within the last three months
- UK driving licence (paper or photocard) – Please note that a driving license cannot be accepted as for both a photo ID and a proof of address
- Benefit statement from DWP
- Confirmation of electoral register search – Must be dated within the last twelve months
- HMRC tax notification (not P45 or P60) – Must be dated within the last twelve months
- Local authority tax bill – Must be dated within the last twelve months
- Local Council rent card or tenancy agreement – Must be dated within the last twelve months
- Mortgage statement – Must be dated within the last twelve months
- Payslip – addressed to home address – Must be dated within the last three months
The forms of address ID must:
- Be issued by different sources
- Bear the same applicant address
- Be no more than three months old (NB: annually issued documents e.g. mortgage statements/Council tax bills etc can be accepted if they are less than twelve months old)
